Selected as one of 13 area designers to participate in the 2008 Naples Designer Show House, a fund raiser for The Naples Art Association and The Naples Players, offered a wonderful opportunity to showcase my design skills. With a variety of rooms available for design, I chose to select the smallest bedroom with a goal of creating a room people would
remember---a nursery, a rarity in model homes.
The design direction was to make the nursery a retreat for mother and child---a special place for bonding and resting anytime of the day or night. A beautiful round bassinet flowing with silk fabric welcomed and comforted both mother and child. The prominent oil painting, yellow water lilies, initiated the inspiration for the room by suggesting quiet time in a beautiful landscape. The yellow water lilies, a painting donated by a local artist, also inspired a name for the baby, "Lilly." The chaise lounge offered a comfortable place for mother and child to read and dream together as they glanced at the fairy tale murals on the walls and rested on the embodied "Lilly" pillow.
